The company has a parabolic mirror, which gives a clearer, more detailed image than spherical mirrors and other beginner telescopes. Galaxies, nebulae and other deep-space images are spectacular. With the optional 2X Barlow lens, Saturn’s rings and the bands of Jupiter come into view.

If you prefer a tripod-mounted scope, the Scientifics 60mm is an excellent beginner’s instrument. Economically priced, it comes with a 2X Barlow lens, 1.5X erecting prism, and two 1.25-inch eyepieces. The guide and locator are also included to make viewing easy. The Scientifics 60mm is best for viewing the moon and the larger planets.

The SkyQuest XT6-Classic Dobsonian by Orion is also an excellent beginner telescope for the new astronomer. Again, it is easy to set up and conveniently portable. It has a parabolic mirror and 1200mm focal length, which makes it possible to see deep-sky objects and detailed planet and moon features.
